Online Storytelling Workshop starting April 5

3-day Online Storytelling Workshop

Dates: Sundays 2-4pm, Price: $50 (sliding scale)

As we try to stay connected with each other despite our pledge to stay physically separate, we at Hudson Valley Story Workshops will be offering our storytelling workshop online. We believe that this is a wonderful opportunity to support each other during this challenging time.

Stories build community and help us make sense of ourselves and the world we live in. We need that now more than ever. In crafting and telling stories of our lived experience, we learn to explore the life experiences that have shaped and defined us as individuals, and telling our stories also connects us to others and reveals our shared humanity.

In this workshop you will:

  • Be introduced to principles and strategies of live storytelling
  • Learn to turn your life experiences into a compelling story
  • Receive individual feedback and support on your story
  • Work with other storytellers to practice and improve your story
  • Perform a final 5-minute story

Is this for you?

Have you ever attended a story slam or listened to the Moth Radio Hour? Do you have a story you’d like to perform or just work on? Do you miss coming to On The Fly Story Slam at HiLo Catskill and want to stay connected to other storytellers until we are able to gather in public places again? Have you always wanted to explore storytelling, but never had the time? We’d love to have you!

Special notes

We will use Zoom to host the workshops and will send you a link along with instructions on how to set up Zoom.

On The Fly – Corona Edition

otf corona edition insta

I think we’ve all been thinking a lot about the different ways in which we are connected with each other and the world around us in the last few weeks as our in-body interactions have been reduced to a minimum. I never knew how often I hug someone else until I wasn’t able to, and I find myself forcing my hands back into my coat pockets whenever I see a known face in the street or at the grocery store. I want to reach out to touch them, hug them, push them – anything that gives our connection a physical reality. But the kind and loving thing is now to stay away, keep our distance, go online.

Anyway, Caitlin and I are very sad to have to cancel ON THE FLY story slam for the foreseeable future and we will miss seeing all of you in the flesh. But we’re hoping that we can still share stories about our experiences of living through this crisis that requires us to socially distance ourselves from one another. We’re reaching out to invite you, our storytelling community, to join us every other week for an online ‘corona story hour’ or hang-out where we can share stories – the good, the bad, the weird and the funny – from our separate living rooms. We call it “On The Fly – corona edition.”

The first story hour will be next Friday, March 27 @ 7pm.
